Neil chose to expand his horizons by risking an excursion to an unknown experience in the United States at French Woods. That would lead to a 40-year connection, with some ups and downs, but which would eventually propel him into a whole other career. That would be a success.
After college, Neil explored overseas colonial opportunities, as had other members of his family before him. It didn’t work out exactly as he had hoped, but he was strengthened by the experience and developed a resilience and fortitude that would stand him in good stead moving forward. That would be a success.
Starting in Great Neck Public Schools was another adventure. Neil started as a temporary substitute but managed to survive 29 years, the last 10 of which were as the Head of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. That would be a success.
Along the way, Neil obtained degrees in Music, Theatre and School Administration. He taught classes in Playwriting and Music composition, among others. He was within spitting distance of obtaining an Ed D when he was told CWPost had lost their accreditation to grant Doctoral degrees. He wasn’t about to start over at another institution at that point in his life, just for the prestige. It was a disappointment, but overall, that would be a success.
He may not be a High Court Judge, an international concert performer, a corporate Finance leader or a renowned University Professor, but he did OK. He touched the lives, if only briefly, of hundreds of young people who hopefully benefitted from his insight and experience.
